Would you rather cry in a Lamborghini or a Toyota Camry?

Why balance is the most important thing in this new generation?

I Would rather cry in a Lamborghini or a Toyota Camry!

Have you heard this advice on the internet before? But have you seen anyone giving this advice doing this? They are either dead or living with so much mental instability and trauma which begs me to ask this question.

Do you want to just excel in one area of your life and leave behind every other behind? Get rich but be in meaningless relationships, do something that you hate doing, have fake friends, no peace and bad health. Same goes with other way be really spiritually aware and free but suck at other things such as creating a sustainable life for you and your family?

We are living in a life of instant gratification, we have things getting delivered to us within two hours, food getting to our house in 30 minutes. With so many conveniences in our lives we should be more happy than 200 years ago? Right?

But every survey on any kind of happiness and satisfaction levels has seen significant downturn with increase in modernization of the world. Our lives are full of entertainment now. The entertainment box is in your hands right now and probably you are reading this on it. (Not criticizing phones here) But peace, joy and satisfaction in our lives have gone down significantly.

But is it actually the problem? Technology has completely changed our lives, I am writing this email from Lake Atitlan in Guatemala. Internet has enabled us to do whatever we want from anywhere in this world. Making money online has be easier than ever before. Internet has opened so many sources of income that were hard to imagine 20 years ago. But what has become harder? Focus.

With all these new technologies creeping in, we have lost our focus. Getting that dopamine has become so much easier now that we get satisfied with the dopamine we get from social media rather than doing things that we should be doing. To put in perspective, the history of Humans is over 2 million years, internet was invented 50 years ago and first iPhone was launched only 17 years ago. We have no idea how to deal with this new inventions in a balanced way.

In this modern world, what we are looking for is balance. It is the thing of utmost importance. I want to excel financially, physically, mentally and spiritually. If you read my last newsletter (I talk about 4 virtues of health). I call it Balance Ikigai. It is not easy and forget about being a quick work, it takes years and even lifetime but the whole point of this to make it part of our journey, to make it part of our life.

Men and women for thousands of years even as we progressed through different civilizations have tried to be balanced. When they lost the balance, the civilization crumbled. From ancient times, whether it was ancient Indian civilization, Greek or Romans, men and women were encouraged to go through different journeys and life experiences to become better and evolved humans. That is the reason we are here today.

So coming back to initial quote, Would I rather cry in a Lamborghini or a Toyota Camry?

I have no problem with crying, cry wherever you want but don’t cry of regret that you didn’t give your best. One of my favorite pictures from India is “Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara” which literally translates to “You won’t get this life back”. Live a life where you don’t feel regret while heading to your deathbed.

You have two lives. The second one starts when you realize you have only one. - Confucius
