Why do you stay in prison when the door is so wide open?

So I want to share a story of two lions with you today.

One lion grew up in the zoo and the other in the jungle.

The lion that grew up in the zoo had a really easy life.

He didn’t fight for his food. It was given to him.

He didn’t have to think about survival.

The lion that grew up in the jungle had to hunt for food everyday, with ever decreasing number of prey.

He had to survive everyday and faced a lot of adversity.

His life was hard.

After all that struggle, National Geographic people have cameras all around capturing every moment.

What happens if you take the lion from the jungle and put him in a zoo?

Will he survive? Absolutely.

He will probably get bored.

But what happens if you take the lion from the zoo and put them in the jungle?

Dead.

You don’t want to be like the zoo-lion.

You want to be like the lion from the jungle.

Your comfort zone is the zoo where everything is easy and handed to you.

Comfort zone feels good and mushy but it’s a prison and a prison that you built yourself.

A comfortable prison but when adversity comes you are unprepared.

How to know that you are in your comfort zone?

  • You avoid risks.

  • You resist change.

  • You are living in maximum comfort.

  • Your life lacks challenge.

How to get out of your comfort zone? Do things that are uncomfortable.

When you are out of your comfort zone, that is when you grow.

An example of prison are the limiting beliefs that we share with ourselves.

  • I can’t do this.

  • I am not good enough.

  • I need more experience.

  • This is my first time.

These are all limiting beliefs that keep you in your comfort zone.

When you dare to challenge your beliefs, then is when you come across the better version of yourself.

How to have a growth mindset?

  • Chase your dreams. We all have dreams, chase them sometimes.

  • Embrace challenges. Don’t shy away from challenges.

  • Learn something new. Try learning a new skill or hobby.

  • Go to travel to new country that don't speak your language.

  • Ask out someone you like. Move past the rejection.

  • Ask for promotion or switch to a new job.

  • Start your business.

  • Fail yet keep going.

  • Or it can be as simple as starting a new habit.

If you understand yourself, growth mindset becomes part of your identity.

You understand that learning and growing is the way of life.

When we stop growing, we are dead.

Ask yourself, why do you stay in prison when the door is so wide open?

The prison is the limiting beliefs you have created about yourself.

The doors are the ways to get out of your comfort zone.

You can take risks, embrace challenges, step forward on a journey that you want and keep going even when you witness failure.

Remember, you are a lion from the jungle, not from the zoo.

The choice is yours.

What will you choose to become?
