How can we design a world where it’s easy to do what’s right?

The biggest game changer in life: A morning routine.

Have you ever though that

How can we design a world where it’s easy to do what’s right?

Life is essentially an accumulation of days and the things we do everyday combine to enhance or worsen our quality of life.

The way you start your day reflects the progress on your whole day. Have a bad morning, and you will have a bad day. Have a great morning, and you will have a great day. This being said, it doesn’t mean that you can’t change your day but it requires effort and energy. And do you want to spend that much energy everyday?

Why to do something that really nourishes you in the morning? See human health can be broken down into few categories: physical, mental or psychological, emotional and spiritual. Whenever I say health, I refer all of these.

An unbalance in any of these will cause disease (dis-ease).

So how to take care of them in the morning? We can do yoga or exercise for physical health, meditation for mental, psychological and spiritual health, reading for mental and psychological health and writing or journalling for aligning everything together. These are examples, you can choose what feels the most convenient to you.

These 4 things are very important for our health. But these are not easy to do everyday at least that’s what we think about. For every thought of a better life, there are 100 thoughts beating you back down. A lot of us say we are not motivated and sometimes we feel lazy or we don’t have time because of other responsibilities. Worst of all we feel motivated in the beginning and than it dies in a few weeks or maybe months.

What’s the solution? Humans are creature of habits. A good habit helps us to get better, a bad habit makes us worse. Meditating just 10 minutes everyday is over 60 hours of meditation every year. Smoking just 3 cigarettes a day is over 1000 cigarettes a year.

The easiest way to make a habit a part of our life is by making it part of our identity. Instead of saying I want to read or write (put anything you want here), say I am a writer or reader. Making a habit a part of identity is the easiest way to adopt a habit in your life.

Outcomes are about what you get. Processes are about what you do. Identity is about what you believe.

Integrating healthy habits in our daily life have compounding results. With an improved health you will also find deeper sense of meaning in your work, relationships and what your calling (passion and purpose). You won’t find it after a week or month but as you prolong this you will uncover a lot of things that were harder to uncover when your whole system was unregulated and a lot of your energy was wasted procrastinating about regulating your system everyday.

The ultimate form of intrinsic motivation is when a habit becomes part of your identity. It’s one thing to say I’m the type of person who wants this. It’s something very different to say I’m the type of person who is this. - James Clear

We cannot change everything with a morning routine but it’s an important start. Having a strong morning routine is not just a hack, it’s a cheatsheet for happiness, which only you can set and uncover.
